National TV show to spotlight Buffalo businesses

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – The Queen City will soon be in the spotlight for a national audience. A film crew for the television show “Start Up” is in town this week shooting at a handful of local businesses that will be featured in the upcoming season of the show.

The shooting schedule in Buffalo started Wednesday morning at City Dining Cards on Main Street. The customer loyalty marketing company has been in business here since 2011, and the “Start Up” show’s producers say they hope sharing the company’s story will inspire other entrepreneurs to get going on their own dreams and open their own businesses.

The Buffalo episode of “Start Up”, which airs Sunday afternoons on the public television station The World channel, will also feature an event with the local entrepreneur group the Startup Grind, as well as the local businesses Public Espresso and Craft Cruiser, an eco-friendly beer bicycle tour that’s going to be coming to Buffalo soon. The TV show’s crews will wrap up shooting in Buffalo on Friday.

The “Start Up” team travels the country meeting business owners and their customers for the series. They’re here in Buffalo by popular demand. “What a great place Buffalo is,” said “Start Up” producer Jenny Feterovich. “But actually we had a lot of people write in about Buffalo and they would write to the show and they would nominate businesses, and one day we said, ‘You know what, let’s take a look at it,’ and you guys have a wonderful, bustling community here.”

“I think it’s a great opportunity for the businesses that are being featured to tell their story to other people. I think it’s great for us to be able to tell Buffalo’s story and show that it’s a great place to start a business, a great place to be in business and that Buffalo has a really bright future ahead,” said Patrick Finan, co-founder and CEO of City Dining Cards.

All of the interviews and video the “Start Up” crew shoots here this week will be used in an episode in the new season of the show which will begin airing in September.
